Pen Pic Preston`s number one has been at the club since signing on as a youth and has made over 100 appearances for The North End, he also has 1 England U21 cap to his name. Lonergan made his debut in The League Cup to then-Premiership side Coventry City as a 17 year old in 2000.

Andy`s career hasn`t been all plain sailing for his home town club, after making his league debut under David Moyes against Watford following a pre-match injury to David Lucas, Lonergan then played second choice to Jonathan Gould under manager Craig Brown. Following and injury to Jonathan Gould he started consecutive games for the Lillywhites and kept his place in the side until the end of the season. A change of manager at Deepdale saw Billy Davies become Preston boss number 3 of Lonergan`s short career and he not only kept his place in the side but took the squad number 1. During this period Lonergan scored a freak goal away at Leicester City in a 1-1 draw, his long ball forward from his own area evaded everyone including opposition goalkeeper Kevin Pressman. Lonergan`s run in the side was ended when he suffered a broken hand in a fixture with Queens Park Rangers, this kept him out for 2 months but shortly after his recovery Lonergan succumbed to a much more serious injury.

Unfortunately for Andy, he decided to put an extra training session in with some of the youth players and snapped his cruciate knee ligaments. It wasn`t until the next season where Lonergan returned to full fitness but found himself second choice behind Carlo Nash who had been in excellent form following his transfer from Middlesbrough. The 2004-2005 season ended with Preston losing to West Ham in the Championship play-off final with Nash retaining his place in goal and even worse for Lonergan, he had suffered the same injury again, this time after going on loan to Wycombe Wanderers to gain first team experience. Lonergan`s next taste of first team football came a third of the way into the 2006-2007 sea
