A first half few on clear cut chances looked set to end goalless until Lee (45), at the end of a good Sheffield Wednesday move, finished off a from Forestieri's set up to give the Owls the half time lead.
Not a bad way for him to mark his 100th appearance for the club....
Sheffield Wednesday doubled their lead early in the second half when Welsh had the ball stolen off him by Pudil (55) who went on to beat Pickford and leave Preston with a mountain to climb.
That mountain was halved when Browne (76) was able to finish off a Doyle flick on to give Preston hope with Middlesbrough loanee Reach and Doyle himself threatening an equaliser for PNE but it wouldn't come.

Sunderland loanee 'keeper Pickford, as Preston sought a late equaliser, went up for a corner with McGugan (90) taking advantage of an unguarded net to finish from long range in injury-time.
