Vital Report - Preston 1-0 Watford

Attendance: 6,250

Preston's Capital One Cup run goes on for one more round at least after a win at Deepdale against Watford on Tuesday.

Watford, of course a Premier League club again these days, made 11 changes to the side that played on Saturday however Grayson also made some changes for Preston with an early Vermijl goal seeing PNE through one-nil!

It couldn't have been a better start for Preston with Sheffield Wednesday loanee Vermijl (8), who is with the club for the season, following up a blocked Brownhill effort to put PNE into the lead.

Which was in fact enough to send the Lilywhites through!

Pressure was put on by Watford but they couldn't break through and when they went down to 10-men when Britos was shown a straight red card on his Hornets debut, for an elbow on Wright, this 'took the sting' out of Watford's chances of a comeback.

A second might have come from PNE through Garner, it didn't but it didn't matter as a place in round three was already secured with AFC Bournemouth coming to Deepdale with another Premier League scalp sought!
