Preston Draw Again
24 Jan 2015
Preston draw again and now they must go back to Bramall Lane for a replay with Sheffield United.
The game ended 1-1 after Paul Gallagher had opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a delightful free kick only for the visitors to fight back with Diego De Girolamo levelling the score midway through the second period.
Sheff United came to Deepdale with one eye on the second leg of the Capital One cup coming up against Tottenham and it was the home side that started the brightest and it was no great surprise when Gallagher fired home a free kick from 30 yards out to give Preston the lead.
Neil Kilkenny should really have doubled Preston's lead, but when Kyel Reid's cross came over Kilkenny thought that he would put the ball across goal rather than fire at goal from inside the 6 yard box.
Soon after Calum Woods cleared an effort from De Girolamo off the line.
But De Girolamo got his reward when Jamie Murphy cut the ball back for him to equalise from eight yards.
After the game manager Simon Grayson said: "If you can`t win the game the next best thing is to make sure you`re still in the hat.
"It was a good old-fashioned cup tie between two teams who wanted to make sure they stayed in the competition."
