Preston 1-0 Shrewsbury Town
An upset was avoided as Preston progressed in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.
Shrewsbury Town came to Deepdale looking to cause an upset against Preston but a second half strike was enough to seal us a 1-0 win and a place in the second round.
First half domination couldn't be converted into goals.
Will Hayhurst, causing constant problems for the visitors defence, picked out Scott Laird but his header was straight at a grateful Shrews 'keeper Jayson Leutwiler.
Leutwiler again got in the way to prevent a goal at the end of another telling Hayhurst cross as the half ended nil-nil.
Finally, on the hour, the breakthrough came when Calum Woods found the unmarked Jordan Hugil (59) to put us ahead.
Shortly after Jean-Louis Akpa Apro did force a good save out of back-up 'keeper Thorsten Stuckmann, but that was about as good as it got for the visitors as we secured a deserved win.
