Maguire Now Aims To Impress Neil
Sean Maguire and Kevin O'Connor added to the considerable Irish contingent at Deepdale when they were both signed by Preston this summer - by former boss Simon Grayson.
Maguire had impressed Grayson - before his exit for Sunderland - with his goalscoring exploits at Cork City and if he can do the same with Alex Neil the (will be) Republic of Ireland international shouldn't have a problem.
Admittedly being signed by Grayson but set to start his Preston career under Neil is 'a funny one' for Maguire but he's not fazed and wishes the former North End boss well at the Stadium of Light.
Maguire was quoted by RTE: 'It's obviously a funny one, the manager who's signed me is gone to Sunderland but I wish him all the best. The opportunity came for him and he obviously thinks it's the right one.'
The forward, who has scored goals for fun at Cork, and defender Kevin O'Connor will meet up with their new teammates when Preston spent time at Fota Island for a training camp in Ireland - both will soon link up with the squad on a full time basis.
He said: 'Myself and Kevin O'Connor are going to go down for a couple of days [to Fota Island], meet our new team-mates, get in with the lads and get to know the boys. I'll be looking forward to that.'
Aware Neil probably doesn't know much about him, Maguire is excited about the prospect of coming to Lancashire when he's hopeful he and best mate O'Connor can show the former Norwich boss what they can do.
'I'm very excited to show the new manager what I can do. He probably doesn't know much about me and Kevin. I can't wait in a couple of weeks' time to show him what I can do. Me and Kev are best mates. We're always with each other. Hopefully we can help each other settle in and go over there and show the English Championship what we can do.'
Scoring goals and being a team player is all the forward will need to do in order to win over the new boss just as he had the old one.
