Manchester United Legend & England Boss Linked

Manchester United Legend & England Boss Linked

Well, I say a Manchester United legend has been linked but in fairness these links to Ryan Giggs come from the bookies, Sky Bet.

Odds as high as 8/1 over the weekend, Giggs has now drifted slightly, saw the Welshman as arguably the most high profile of names to be linked with Preston following Simon Grayson's decision to leave for Sunderland last week.

Giggs, of course lacking managerial experience in his own right, spent his entire playing career at Old Trafford and gained coaching experience working alongside Louis van Gaal and former Preston boss David Moyes at Man United - he had a brief caretaker stint in charge of United too.

He's keen to move into management so could Deepdale be the place where this opportunity presents itself? If Giggs did become the new Preston boss his name would appeal to players and could lure some to North End, on sensible deals; that perhaps wouldn't have joined the Lilywhites otherwise?

Ok, Giggs is a nice idea but perhaps England U21 boss Aidy Boothroyd is the more likely candidate?

According to the Daily Mirror, Boothroyd, 46, has 'emerged as a candidate' for the Preston vacancy. Previously of Watford, taking them into the Premier League, Colchester, Coventry and Northampton, he's currently in charge of the England U21 side.

Boothroyd, who took England to the semi-finals of the European Championships recently before, of course, the Three Lions lost to Germany on penalties, was appointed U21 boss when Gareth Southgate officially stepped up to a permanent role with the senior team.

Giggs or Boothroyd? Then again chances are neither will be installed at Deepdale?
