Rudd Returns.... Again
However, this time Preston haven't signed Norwich goalkeeper Declan Rudd on loan.
After two separate loan spells at Deepdale, spending last season in League One with Charlton, Preston have completed the signing of Rudd from Norwich on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.
Rudd, 26, has signed a three year contact with North End.
He told the Official Website: 'Coming back here is something that has always been in my mind. When I was on loan here a few years ago it felt like home to me and everyone made me feel welcome and wanted. The last three or four years I`ve been here, there and everywhere and I`m happy to finally come back and get things underway.'
Chris Maxwell did surprisingly well last season and established himself as Preston's number one after arriving from Fleetwood. The Welsh international isn't going to be happy if he drops out but Rudd wouldn't have joined North End to play second fiddle, someone will be disappointed.
Preston boss Simon Grayson was delighted to bring him back and looks forward to the competition for places.
Grayson said: 'We are delighted to have signed Declan. We have worked with him before and we now have really good competition for the goalkeeping spot - we have two outstanding senior goalkeepers to choose from. Chris [Maxwell] had a fantastic year, last year, and we wanted to bring in someone who would provide quality competition for the No.1 spot.'
Adding the previous Rudd has at Deepdale will make it easy for him to integrate himself back into the squad.
'It should be an easy process for him to settle in; he knows how we all work and it could be as if he has not been away. We are looking forward to working with him and looking forward to challenge he will provide. Pre-season is all about competition for places, in all areas of the pitch and the players who perform best during this time will earn the shirts for the first game of the season.'
During his time at Norwich, making his debut in 2009, Rudd had made 34 appearances, adding 40 to his tally at Charlton last season and 69 for Preston during his previous stints with North End.
