Preston Exits Confirmed

Preston Exits Confirmed

Preston have wasted little time in confirming the retained list at the end of the 2016-17 season.

Jermaine Beckford, signed permanently from Bolton in 2015, Anders Lindegaard, the ex-Manchester United keeper who came in on a full time deal from West Brom a year ago, and Clive Smith are being released.

Beckford, 33, scored a hat trick in the 2015 play-off final win but has been hampered by injuries pretty much ever since, making 60 appearances for Preston in total. He'll always be regarded as a North End hero, also be recalled less favourably for his fight with teammate Eoin Doyle this season.

After a successful loan last season Lindegaard, 33, was secured on a permanent basis last summer. Expected to be the first choice at Deepdale, this proved the case at the start of the season but once Chris Maxwell got in there was no looking back. The Danish international managed just 10 games, the last against Newcastle in October.

19 year old academy graduate Smith, who spent the second half of the season on loan at St Johnstone, will leave Preston having failed to make a first team appearance. But an option was taken up on keeper Mathew Hudson, 18, extending his stay into the 2017-18 campaign.

Aiden McGeady, Alex Baptiste, Simon Makienok and Tyias Browning have returned to their parent clubs at the end of loan spells.

The Official Website confirmed this news in a statement, all depart with the clubs best wishes.

'Preston North End would like to thank all of the players who will leave the club for their efforts and commitment during their time at Deepdale and wish them all success in the future.'
