Hume Talks Down The Line

Does Iain Hume feature in Simon Grayson's long term plans at Preston? This time last year you would've said no but now the odds are more likely to be a yes.

Grayson decided that he wanted him back at Deepdale after his loan spell with Doncaster and he'd be given a chance, which he has this season. However, his contract expires at the end of the season and so far no talks have taken place.

Most other players, who would have been out of contract of Grayson wanted to keep, have already been tied down and the ones he doesn't want are currently out on loan and won't be given a new deal.

With that in mind it would be easy to think that Grayson isn't that keen, he's played that down though and insists that talks will take place later in the season and he's not the only one that'll be talked too about a new deal.

He told the official website: 'Iain Hume is one of those out of contract in the summer and that is a situation which will take care of itself over the course of the season. We will speak to him towards the end of the season when we know a bit more about where we will be.

'The other lads who are out of contract are the ones who have gone out on loan knowing their futures are elsewhere.

'Humey is a fans' favourite here and showed against Port Vale what he is capable of. I still think there is a lot more to come from him - he can still get more up to speed with fitness levels.

'But Humey is a very good player to have around the squad and there is some good competition for places up front.'

It's likely that Hume would have to look at reducing his wages, as these were a major factor causing problems before?
