Having gone on a good unbeaten run Preston were then beaten last weekend, they responded with an emphatic 5-0 win in midweek to get back to winning ways.
Graham Westley has hinted that he's got his eyes on a successful end of season outcome and knows how important goal difference could become: 'We didn't play well on Saturday, there's no hiding from that, but the footballing ethos was there for everyone to see.
'We have a next-goal mentality. We want to keep scoring the next goal. Who knows how important goals scored could be at the end of the season?
'We saw in the Premier League last season how important that can be and how it can make the difference between success and failure.'
It would be easy to go overboard following this spanking of Hartlepool, but at the same time it would also have been easy to have been disheartened following the weekend win.
Remaining grounded is the Preston bosses mentality at the moment: 'Just as I didn't get myself too downhearted on Saturday, I'm not going to get too carried away now. We played well and scored some good goals, but now have a tough trip to Walsall and we have to get ready for that.'
